Understanding and correct work are two different things. Sometimes they overlap, sometimes they don't. But understanding stays hidden inside the mind, and the work is all anyone can see. So we measured the work, because the work was the only thing there was to measure. It was never the understanding. It was only the visible trace we hoped understanding left behind, and that held as long as enough correct work carried understanding with it. Then AI learned to produce correct work with nothing behind it, and what the work had always left out finally surfaced. Underneath the work sits understanding itself, which no grade has ever measured.

The same AI that made the work cheap is the first instrument that can see what the work leaves out. Vantle points that instrument at understanding itself: how a student reasons, judges, and explains. It gathers what it finds into a living map of each student's understanding, in their own words.
How assessment works
Assessments mix three kinds of questions. Each measures something different.
Work alone
Some questions are the student and a blank page. A baseline no chatbot can fake.
Judge the AI
Students review AI-produced work, catch what is wrong, and defend what is right.
Teach the AI
Students teach a concept to an AI that pushes back. Teaching is the hardest proof of understanding: you have to know why, not just how.
Every course becomes a map
Each concept carries two signals: what the student has built in practice, and what they have proven on assessment. The two never blend. Readings look for reasoning that holds up when the problem changes, and they arrive with the student's own words as evidence.
For professors
- AI informs, you grade. Readings never become the grade. You review, correct, and decide.
- Exam-day control. Scheduled exam windows, submissions that cannot be altered after the fact, and Safe Exam Browser integration planned.
- Your course, your rules. Editing, scheduling, and rosters are built in.
For your students
- Their map, their evidence. Each student sees their own map and the words behind every reading.
- Practice at their edge. Guided practice adapts, and stays separate from graded work.
